
As Nigeria marks World day against Child labour, Expert has urged citizens of acquire skills to be able to address Child labour in the society.
Speaking in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital, the state Coordinator National Directorate of Employment, NDE Mrs Uduak Essien attributed the root courses of child labour to proverty and unemployment.
Mrs Essien noted that NDE in line with it’s mandate has been on the path of addressing the root courses of child labour by training people, families in various vocational skills.
” What do I mean by empowering families economically, this could be through vocational training for families and youths”.
The NDE state boss emphasized that NDE Director General, Mr Silas Agara on assumption of office introduced programs geared towards addressing unemployment which will inturn address issues of child labour
Mrs Essien however advised citizens to embrace skills inorder to totally eradicate child labour in Nigeria.
‘the youths, matured adults who are strong should embrace skills, when you have skills you can never be hungry “
The 2025 World day against Child labour with the theme ” Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: Let’s speed up efforts” is aimed at strengthening, prevention, protection, and partnerships to eliminate child labour.
