In what may mark a defining moment in Rivers State’s prolonged political crisis, President Bola Tinubu met for two days with key political leaders in the state.

An online photo showed the political leaders, including the suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule and members of the assembly with President Tinubu.

The meeting, which held on Wednesday and Thursday, is the first direct reconciliatory move between the governor and state lawmakers since the crisis that led to their suspension from office.

It renewed hopes that the political crisis in the state may soon be over. Reports say the meeting ended on a positive note, with Fubara and Amaewhule sharing jokes and laughter whilst holding hands.

An enlarged peace meeting is reportedly expected to discuss detailed peace terms.
