Delta State Government says it is intervening in the reconstruction of the bad portion of the Effurun axis of the Benin–Sapele –Warri dual carriageway .
The State Commissioner for Works, Urban and Highways, Mr Reuben Izeze told newsmen in Asaba that Delta State Government had approved about thirty five billion naira for the reconstruction work .
He said the stretch of the failed portion of the road to be reconstructed is five kilometers, on both sides , totalling ten kilometers from the Spare Parts Market U-turn in Effurun to Ohorhe Junction before Ometan Bridge, after army checkpoint in Uvwie.

Mr Izeze said Delta State Government decided to intervene in reconstructing some parts of the dual carriageway to alleviate the plights of users of the road .
The Delta State Commissioner for Works, Urban and Highways hinted that the state government had discussed with the Federal Government on the need for the state intervention , and that it was agreed that whatever amount in the reconstruction would be refunded by the Federal Government.
Izeze said, “His Excellency , Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, graciously approved a 10 kilometer reconstruction: 5km on each side, and that project is costing us about 35 billion naira. That is an intervention by the Delta State Government on behalf of the Federal Government.”
”The Federal Government before now had been battling with the award of the reconstruction of the entire Benin–Sapele -Warri Road because the contractor was not performing. Our people using the road have been suffering as motorists will spend up to four hours on the failed portion from the Spare Parts Market U-turn in Effurun to Ohorhe Junction before Ometan Bridge, after army checkpoint in Uvwie”
”So, that was what led to the discussion between the Delta State Government and Federal Government, and that the Delta State Government should take up that deplorable part of the dual carriageway for intervention pending when the Federal Government would be able to refund money spend to the Delta State Government ”
While commenting on the pace of work on the three flyover projects in DSC roundabout, PTI and Marine gate, Mr Izeze expressed satisfaction with the work done so far by the construction firms, and gave an assurance that the projects would be delivered to specifications.
