
In order to dispel the fear of vaccines, the care and development center in collaboration with the Rivers State Primary Health care Management Board and other civil society organizations has embarked on a sensitization walk in mile 3 area of Port Harcourt.
According to the director, care and development center, Mrs. Omoroda Rhoda, the walk became imperative as vaccination is the simple, safe and secure way of protecting people against harmful disease.
Also the Rivers State health educator with the State Primary Health care Management Board, Dr Diana Babo, while confirming the decline in vaccination attributed it to misconception of vaccines and mistrust of government, which she said has reintroduced so many vaccines preventable diseases, stressing that people should take responsibility for their health.
On a her part a medical practitioner, Dr. Jane Ojiogwu, of every woman center who urged people to always get vaccines and health information from a trusted source noted that anti- vaccines stories are often spread online through social media emphasizing that vaccine information on social media may not be based on scientific evidence and could put people at risk of a serious illness.
She further described vaccines as one of the key steps in improving immunity, adding that vaccine teaches the immune system how to create antibodies that protect an individual from diseases
