Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Sunny Ekadeyan has said that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will give priority to infrastructure,health, agriculture , education, human capital development, social protection, and job creation in the state 2026 budget
Mr Ekadeyan stated this in Asaba while commenting on the inter-ministeral 2026 budget defense coordinated by the State Ministry of Economic Planning Committee.
He said the exercise provides opportunity for the committee to assess the proposed programmes and activities of ministries, agencies and extra ministerial departments for the incoming year as presented by the commissioners or representatives of MDAs in line with the visions and missions of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as encapsulated in his MORE agenda.
Mr Ekadeyan stated further , ”In our priority sectors, we are looking at agriculture which is very important. That is food security. Other priorities are job creation, human capital, education ; we have four state universities , three polytechnics, two colleges of education; five colleges of nursing; two colleges of health technology; about 489 secondary schools, nine technical colleges. We also have almost 1200 primary schools. You can also expect a sizable amount to go to Education”
”The governor is also strongly looking at social protection ; improving social safety nets. There is a lot going on in infrastructure in every part of the state. Expect a sizable allocation to infrastructure which will be given pride of place in the 2026 budget. Roads, health, and other sectors that make life meaningful , and improve conditions of living, will be given priority ”
” The last but not the least is the electricity energy sector. The basics have been done. We have enacted the state electricity law, and established the state electricity commission , and a few other agencies around that space also need to be established, and operationalized. Even though the government is not going to go out of its way to directly fund the sector, the government will make it such that the operating environment is nice and attractive enough to bring in players , foreign , I mean local investors to come. As a state, we are lucky ; I think we have an energy advantage . We have gas. We have about at least four major gencos operating in the state that are supplying energy across the country . That’s something we can take advantage of ”, Ekadeyan stated .
Meanwhile, many commissioners have defended their ministries budget proposals for 2026, with assurances of more execution of projects following sharp increases in allocations when compared with the outgoing year.
Among the commissioners included Onoriode Agofure, transport; Michael Ifeanyi Anoka, urban renewal; Ebikeme Clark , riverine infrastructural development.
Others included the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, represented by the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General, Omamuzo Erebe (SAN )as well as the Director General of the Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Areas Development Agency, Prince Godwin Eguriase Ejinyere.
