A new chapter opened for Bonny Kingdom and the Ogoni axis as President Bola Tinubu officially flagged off the temporary use of the 37.9-kilometre Bodo–Bonny Road, bringing the long-awaited relief to communities that have endured decades of tough river crossings and costly helicopter trips.

The Bodo/Bonny road project is a landmark federal infrastructure development designed to provide a reliable and lasting land connection between bodo town on the main land and Bonny island in Rivers State.

The road will serve as the arterial link to Bonny town where the Nigeria liquified Natural Gas,NLNG and other oil companies carry out their major operations.

The project was awarded on 11th Dec 2014 and commencement date Oct 20 2017 marking the beginning of a critical national investment aimed at enhancing socio-economic activities in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking at the temporary opening ceremony President Bola Tinubu who was ably represented by the Minister for Works Dave Umahi while commending the construction firm for a nice job explained that in order to sustain the road, public private partnership is necessary as the Government cannot do it alone.

Rivers State Governor Sir Siminilayi fubara who was represented by the secretary to state Government Dr. benibo Anabrabra commended the President for delivering the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of Rivers people while emphasizing on the economic value of the land.

The King of ancient Bonny kingdom king edward asimini williams Dappa represented by the chairman bonny council of chiefs, Se-Alabo Dagogo claude-Wilcox expressed willingness to partner with the Government to provide adequate security on the road.

The event was attended by Government officials including the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South East), Chioma Nweze, National Assembly Committee Chairmen on Works, and traditional rulers from the host communities.

The road which is expected to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on March 2026 spans 37.9 kilometres and tranverses challenging terrain including forests, swamps and creek networks making it one of the most technically demanding road projects undertaken in the country.
