The Edo State House of Assembly Special Ad-hoc Committee on Project Inspection has charged the contractor handling the Upper Ekehuan Road construction work to accelerate work on the road for the benefit of road users.

Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr Addeh Isibor gave the charge at Upper Ekehuan Road in Igo Community, Ovia North East Local Government Area when he led other members of the committee to inspect the ongoing project.

Addressing newsmen at the Upper Ekehuan Road, Mr. Isibor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work being executed.

He noted that the downpour before the day of the inspection had made it impossible for them to fully assess some sections of the road.

He thereafter commended the contractor for being on site despite the inclement weather.

Similarly, the member representing Etsako East in the assembly, Mr Kingsley Ugabi appreciated the governor for being passionate to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Also, the member representing Akoko-Edo Two Constituency, Mr. Donald Okogbe described the Upper Ekehuan Road as a legacy project for Edo State, and urged the contractor to increase the pace of work to meet public expectations.

He assured that the contractors would show more seriousness in handling the project due to concerns expressed by members of the committee.

The lawmaker also asked the people of the state to always pay tax to encourage the governor carry more developmental projects in the state.

Providing technical updates, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects, Mrs Phoebe Williams-Bello, disclosed that the 12.6-kilometre road had over one kilometre of toll-bin construction on both sides, with approximately 850 metres of earthworks completed, noting that persistent rainfall had been a major constraint.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Felix Akhabue, promised that the ministry would intensify monitoring efforts to ensure speedy project delivery

Mr. Akhabue expressed optimism that with the onset of the dry season, construction activities would advance more rapidly.

The committee also inspected other ongoing projects, including Catholic Charismatic Renewal Road, Ugbihoko Quarters, Palace Road along Upper Mission Road, Ekiuwa–UNIBEN Road and Temboga Road, where contractors were commended for the quality and consistency of work so far.
