Plans are at advanced stage for Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to become automated.
Managing Director NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku who made the revelation while speaking at Procurement Development Training Programme in Iguruta Rivers State, said that procurement processes of NDDC have been transformed to encourage transparency, probity and accountability.
While emphasizing on the importance of continuous training, the MD noted that the commission has certified procurement staff, adding that heads of Directorates would also be exposed to procurement processes.

“We are also striving to ensure that we are among the first Government Agencies that will be fully automated in all departments and directorates.
That will also complement what our Public Procurement Department has been doing over the years.
Once we do that, we are also going to compliment that with our governance advisory Policy that will also be coming up; this will bring about probity and accountability in NDDC operations.”
The MD assured that the commission was determined to take projects to the rural areas and complete abandoned projects as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

Similarly, the Director General, Bureau for Public Procurement, Dr. Adebowale Adedekun
who described Public procurement as vital for National development to institute transparency and integrity, noted that the training would equip participants on the need to harmonize policies that would enhance procurement activities.
He stated that Procurement enhances development since every project of government was subjected to procurement process.
In a keynote address, former Director General of BPP, Dr. EMEKA EZE, identified procurement as not only a tool for good governance, but also a measure against corruption.
According to Dr. Eze, the bureau is to regulate procurement and ensure that institutions adhere to laid down rules.
He explained that procurement was an interface between public officials and the private sector aimed at preventing inappropriate access to public funds.
