
Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has donated food items to Umumauzor community in Asa, UKwa West Local Government Area, Abia State.
It was in the nature of a carnival spectacle when the team from NDDC arrived OMUMAUZOR community.
Out of ecstasy and joy, women groups who were already in special uniforms, trooped out in their numbers to receive the team from entrance to the community and accompanied the motorcade, singing, dancing in jubilant mood to the community Town Hall.

As if that was not enough, at the Town Hall, venue for the distribution were leaders of the community, elders, different women groups, youths and children; all full of excitement and cheering mood, kept eulogizing NDDC team, especially Mrs. Chioma Uwakwe, who is an indigene of the area.
To them, it was an unprecedented experience in the locality to receive such quantity of food items from any Government agency.

Speaking during the donation in the community, Managing Director NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku told the people that it was part of the commission’s efforts to cushion the effect of prevalent economic realities.
Represented by Director Social Services, Jeremiah Oritsejolone, the Managing Director assured them of the NDDC’s commitment to the well-being of the residents of the region.
Similarly, Deputy Director Social Services, Mrs. Chioma Uwakwe reminded them that NDDC was instrumental to different infrastructural amenities in the locality.

Mrs. Uwakwe acknowledged that the community wrote to the commission requesting for food palliatives just like other communities; and they were considered to receive the food items from NDDC free of charge.
According the Deputy Director Social Services NDDC, the commission has good plans for the well-being of residents of the oil rich region in addition to project delivery.
She encouraged the community to take ownership of NDDC projects in their locality and guard them against vandalism.
Reacting to the gesture, the Community Development Committee, CDC Chairman of OMUMAUZOR, Elder Felix Nwogu , while appreciating NDDC for the move, stated that the food palliative came at a critical time and would be of great help to the beneficiaries.
Elder Nwogu who could not hide his joy, insisted that the people felt honoured to be remembered by the Interventionist Agency.
Meanwhile, the consultant Damieibi sokari who applauded NDDC for the donation acknowledged that it was a good initiative to bring relief to rural communities in the region.
The residents however requested that the gesture be made regular.
Items donated include, bags of Rice, beans, garri, salt, cartons of noodles, beverages, tubers of yam among others.
