Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated a brand-new Toyota Hiace bus to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the cordial relationship between his administration and the media.
The bus was formally presented to the Delta NUJ Council in Asaba by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who said the donation was in recognition of the longstanding relationship between the state government and the journalists’ body.
“This bus donation is for the use of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. This gesture is as a result of the good relationship that we have had over the years,” Ahon said on behalf of the Governor.
Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism that the gesture would further strengthen the partnership between his administration and the media, stressing that the ultimate objective was to promote the interest and development of Delta State.
He congratulated the NUJ on the acquisition and prayed that the bus would enhance the Union’s operations and contribute to an even stronger working relationship between the government and journalists.
Responding, Chairman of the Delta State Council of NUJ, Mr. Churchill Oyowe, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for fulfilling his promise, describing the donation as clear evidence of the Governor’s commitment to keeping his word.
“We are most grateful. What the Governor has done today is a demonstration of the fact that he promises and he delivers. He made his promise and he has delivered,” Oyowe said.
The NUJ chairman who described the gesture as beyond the provision of a means of transportation, noted that the bus was brand-new and of a modern model.
“We want to say a big thank you to His Excellency for this gesture. We do not take it for granted, and we believe that it will further cement our cordial working relationship,” he added.
Oyowe also commended the Governor’s developmental strides across the state, expressing optimism that more significant achievements would be recorded before the end of his tenure.
He said the people of Delta would ultimately look back and remember Governor Oborevwori as an administration that genuinely cared about their welfare and the overall development of the state.
The NUJ chairman reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to sustaining its cordial relationship with the state government, stressing that the body valued both the partnership and the gesture.
He prayed for continued strength and wisdom for Governor Oborevwori to lead Delta State to greater heights and leave behind a legacy that would be appreciated by posterity.
Oyowe also expressed appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government ,Dr Kingsley Emu, and the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu as well as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor for their roles in facilitating the donation.
