The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has pledged his administration’s continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting legal awareness, justice, peace and order across the council area.

Ogorugba gave the assurance on Thursday when the newly elected executive members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oleh Branch, led by Mr. Timothy Agbaragu, Esq., paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Ozoro.

Welcoming the delegation, the council chairman congratulated the new NBA executives on their successful election and commended them for visiting the local government leadership.

He stressed the importance of legal education and public enlightenment in building a peaceful and law-abiding society, noting that many disputes, crimes, fraud and exploitation could be prevented if citizens understood their rights, responsibilities and the consequences of violating the law.

According to Ogorugba, ignorance of the law often leaves citizens vulnerable to avoidable victimisation and exploitation.

“If you are not enlightened, you will be defrauded,” the chairman said, calling for stronger collaboration between the council and the NBA to take legal awareness programmes to communities across Isoko North.

He said his administration was ready to partner with the NBA in public legal education, advocacy and community sensitisation, stressing that lawyers had a vital role to play in strengthening citizens’ understanding of the law and promoting peaceful resolution of disputes.

Ogorugba also reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, justice and responsible governance, noting that sustainable development could only flourish in an atmosphere of peace, order and respect for the law.

He urged professional bodies, traditional and community leaders, as well as other stakeholders, to partner with the council on programmes capable of improving the welfare of residents and advancing the development of Isoko North.

Earlier, the NBA Oleh Branch delegation commended Ogorugba for what it described as his exemplary leadership and commitment to the development of the local government.

The delegation also praised the chairman for supporting the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda in Isoko North.

The lawyers noted that several visible projects had been executed across the local government since Ogorugba assumed office, saying the projects had positively impacted residents.

The NBA executives expressed their readiness to collaborate with the council on areas of mutual interest, particularly legal awareness, advocacy and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and justice in the local government.

The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to explore areas of collaboration and underscore the importance of professional engagement in promoting good governance, justice and community development.

Among those present were the Secretary to Isoko North LGA, Vote Umukoro, Esq.; Supervisor for Environment, Alebe Joshua Onos; Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Omoyibo Isaiah, Esq.; Chief of Staff, Ikrumale Oghogho; HPM, Mrs. Irene Onwodi; and Director of Protocol, Jude Ogwologho, among others.
