
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, says it has concluded plans to host its 2027 Election Debates.
Chairman of NUJ in the State, Comrade Nsibiet John, stated this at a press briefing to officially unveil the 2027 Election Debates at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo.
The Akwa Ibom State NUJ Chairman said the 2027 Election Debates, scheduled to hold from the 9th to 11th December, 2026, in Uyo, was part of the NUJ’s commitment to promoting issue-based campaigns, strengthen democratic governance and help electorate to make informed choices during the 2027 general elections.
According to the NUJ Chairman, the debate will also afford candidates the opportunity to articulate their plans for good governance and accountability, highlight their track records and explain why they deserve the mandate of the people.
He said the 2027 Election Debates will accommodate all political parties and their candidates participating in the 2027 general elections
Comrade John, who assured all concerned stakeholders of an unbiased and credible exercise, also noted that the Debates will not only be limited to gubernatorial candidates, but will also be opened to all candidates in all the contested elective offices in the 2027 general elections.
“Every candidate that is serious will be invited. I charge members of the Committee to be unbiased in the discharge of their assignment”
In a remark, Chairman of the 2027 NUJ Election Debate Planning Committee, Comrade Ndanti Ekuh, said the initiative will provide a credible platform for gubernatorial candidates and other candidates contesting as members of the State Assembly and the National Assembly to present their vision, programmes and manifestoes to the electorate.
Comrade Ekuh, who stressed that the Committee will officially invite all the political parties and their candidates for the Debates, called for support of all stakeholders in electoral matters to ensure the success of the event.
“Under the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Nsibiet John, the Union remains committed to deepening democracy by creating a non-partisan platform that will enable the electorate to objectively assess candidates based on competence, character and capacity”, he said.
