The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 6 Calabar, AIG Rashid Bello Afegbua, has pledged the Police Command’s support to consolidate the prevailing peace and security in Akwa Ibom State.
AIG Afegbua, who made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, said the state’s relative peace was largely attributable to the support and cooperation of the State Government with security agencies.
He commended Governor Umo Eno for providing the necessary backing for security operations in the state, assuring that the zonal command would facilitate and strengthen the efforts of the state Police Command.
The AIG, who described his first official visit to Akwa Ibom as impressive, said he had followed the Governor’s activities and was particularly impressed by his administration’s initiatives and support for security.
He said, “Akwa Ibom is peaceful because he had the support of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. I want to commend the Governor and his team and assure you that whatever is required of me from my area at the Zone, I will be able to do to facilitate and consolidate on whatever the CP is doing.”
Responding, Governor Umo Eno commended the AIG and the Police Management Team for the visit, describing the State Commissioner of Police as a proactive officer who leads from the front and maintains a cordial relationship with the civilian population.
The Governor said the cooperation among the Police and other security agencies had contributed significantly to the security situation in the state, noting that reports from the various agencies often pointed in the same direction, reflecting effective coordination.
He also highlighted the importance of officers having adequate knowledge of the environment in which they operate, noting that the experience of the State Commissioner of Police, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Akwa Ibom, was an advantage in tackling security challenges.
Governor Eno assured the Police and other security agencies of the State Government’s continued support, stressing that security personnel, particularly rank-and-file officers, deserved public appreciation for their sacrifices in maintaining law and order.
He said, “I thank all the team members that work with him. When Akwa Ibom is missing peace, honestly, it is because of the work they and other security agencies are doing. I am so happy that they are all in sync.”

The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for both the State Government and the Police authorities to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening security collaboration and sustaining the peace enjoyed by residents across Akwa Ibom.
