Ahead of next year’s general election, INEC in Bayelsa State says measures have been put in place to ensure the conduct of free and credible polls.

Giving a breakdown of voter statistics, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Isah Ehimeakhe, confirmed the total number of registered voters in the state as one million, two hundred thousand, six hundred and ninety-one.

An analysis of the latest registration figures shows that Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas recorded the highest numbers, with 12,023 and 10,080, while Ogbia, Nembe, and Kolokuma/Opokuma recorded the lowest, with 3,132, 3,620, and 3,712.

Meanwhile, the display of the national register of voters and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, have commenced for those who registered or applied for transfers during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

Mallam Ehimeakhe noted that the exercise, which began on Friday, October 9, will run until Thursday, October 15, across the 105 Registration Area Centers in all eight Local Government Areas of the state.

He urged voters who registered in 2011, 2022, or during previous registration phases but are yet to pick up their PVCs to visit their respective INEC LGA offices for collection.

The REC appreciated the patience of eligible voters who registered during the second phase between January and April, as well as the third phase between May and July this year, assuring them that their PVCs are currently being processed for distribution.
