Dawn Stop Violence

Rivers State government has called on rape victims to take advantage of the Government’s free medical and legal assistance for such incidents in the State.
The call was made at Igwuruta market in Ikwerre local Government Area during a one day sensitisation Rally against sexual and gender based violence.
Correspondent Desire Lordson Lordson report that various Nongovernmental organisations partnered the Rivers State’s Technical Working Committee on sexual and gender based violence to drive home the awareness.
Speaking at the event, the program Manager of the Committee, Mrs. Obisike Mary and State Chairperson of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Dr. Vetty Agala said the State government is in the forefront to tackle sexual harassment.
Acting Chairperson International Federation of Women Lawyers. FIDA Rivers State Branch, Mrs. Nnenna Igbokwe and the Director, Canaan Peace Initiative, Dr. Christy Iweazor called for laws that would check harmful traditional practices.
On their part, the founder of Mother of Hope International Initiative, Dr. Egelege Pius and a member of the Association against Child sexual and gender based violence, Ambassador Sylvester Okoduwa urged the public to do their part by joining th Government to fight sexual violence.
The rally Rally also had the display of placards with inscriptions as; ‘ My body is not for you; Stop! Stop domestic violence, amongst other.
