BY GABRIEL OKECHUKWU, FRCN PORT HARCOURT

Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku  says the Commission is building a multipurpose Internally Displaced Persons Camp at flood prone areas in Niger Delta Region.

Dr. Ogbuku who made this known during inspection of one of the camps in Otuokpoti Community, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa state, explained that the drive behind the project was to provide shelter to people who have been forced out of their homes whenever flood occurs.

The Managing Director, who told newsmen that four of such emergency shelters were being put up simultaneously in the region, maintained that the facility would be used for other purposes outside emergency issues.

The NDDC boss said the camp is expected to be ready within three months.

The camp has a police post, accommodation for about one thousand persons, school and other recreational facilities.
