

MEDIA PRACTITIONERS TRAINED ON MENSTRUAL HEALTH HYGIENE IN UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE.

Akwa Ibom State government has expressed readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to create awareness on menstrual health and hygiene management in the state.
The state Commissioner for women affairs and social welfare , Mrs Inibehe Etukudo stated this in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital at a two day media training on menstrual health and hygiene organised by the population service international, PSI Nigeria .
The two days training tagged ” menstrual health – NoW is aimed at equipping the media on the knowledge, skill and resources needed to educate and support adolescents girls on menstrual health hygiene .
Speaking during the training, The Akwa Ibom State commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo who was represented by the chairman technical working group for menstrual health and hygiene in the ministry, Mrs Nkechi Udoh thanked the PSI for the training and urged all to work together to address the issues that concerns women and girls.
The technical specialist, communication and training Population service international PSI Nigeria, Mrs Temitope Alfred said the media should be able to address the myths, misconceptions and facts about menstruations.
Noting that the issues of menstruation has not been given the needed conversation in the media space , Mrs Alfred called on all to be advocate of menstrual health hygiene.
Also speaking, the PSI State officer, Mr Godwin Udoh hinted that understanding girls at adolescent age would help creat awareness on Menstrual health hygiene.
Mr Udoh mentained that adolescent girls should be treated with dignity during enlightenment on menstrual health advocacies.
The participants were drawn from Journalists, social media influencers and content creators.
