
Over 65 million Nigerians are expected to benefit from the launch of a $1.5 billion initiative of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
This was announced by the Society’s President, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, during World Red Cross Day celebration in Abuja.
He stated that the initiative which is the Phase 2 of its “Saving Lives and Livelihoods” Project, is aimed at improving vaccine production and strengthening healthcare systems across 10 states in the Country.
Prince Adeaga highlighted the importance of the initiative in boosting access to life-saving vaccines and supporting public health infrastructure.
The project is a partnership between the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC) and the Mastercard Foundation.
Phase 1 of the project concluded in 2023.
According to Adeaga, Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. He also commended Red Cross volunteers for their efforts in flood response activities currently ongoing in over seven states.
The event featured a roadshow and blood donation drive and was attended by representatives from the British Red Cross as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), alongside delegations from Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
This year’s theme, “On the Side of Humanity,” celebrated the commitment of volunteers working to bring hope and relief to communities in need.
