A gas explosion yesterday in the Air Force area of Port Harcourt left several people injured and destroyed over eight vehicles, including some belonging to an interstate transport company.
Eyewitnesses say there were no recorded deaths, but they described the incident as terrifying. The Rivers State Fire Service responded swiftly and put out the fire in less than 30 minutes. Victims of the incident were reportedly rushed to the Air Force Hospital for treatment.
One of the victims, Anthony Ofoke, who is a supervisor at the interstate transport company, spoke to our correspondent in an interview, calling for the government to ban gas stations in residential areas. The cause of the explosion is still unknown at the time of filing this report, as the owners of the facility refused to grant interviews.
