The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) announced a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) starting May 24, 2025, expected to last approximately one month.
The shutdown is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that this is a routine safety measure, not due to sabotage, despite concerns from local fuel retailers in Eleme.
The refinery, which resumed operations in November 2024, has been operating below 40% capacity, producing 82.55 million liters of refined products monthly against an expected 218 million liters.
