A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned to October 13 a suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of a Sole Administrator for Rivers State.
‎
‎The suit, filed by a civil society group, the Initiative for Freedom, Conflict Prevention, and Social Integration, questions the legality of the President’s action and the National Assembly’s ratification.
‎
‎Counsel to the complainant, Amegua Lezina, opposed a request for more time by counsel to the accused, Hilton Urbah, but the court granted the request to allow the defence time to respond to the affidavits.
‎
‎The same group is also challenging the National Assembly’s oversight of the emergency rule and the 2025 budget.
‎
‎Justice Muhammad Turaki directed that a hearing notice be served on the National Assembly, which was absent from the court. Both suits are scheduled for hearing on October 13, pending proper service and adoption of court processes.
