Nigeria National Senior Women’s Football team Super Falcons progressed to the final of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a resilient 2–1 win over defending champions South Africa.
The nine time African champions almost took their early lead through Chiwendu Ihezuo who was positioned by a spectacular pass from Ashleigh Plumptre in the 11th minute, but South Africa goalkeeper Andile Dlamini proved to be a hero with a wonderful save.
The Justin Madugu tutored side were awarded a penalty a minute before the break after Bomgeka Gamede handled the ball inside the box.
Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade quietly slotted the ball into the net, with Dlamini getting a hand on it.
Linda Motlhalo equalised for the Banyana Banyana through another penalty on the hour mark.
However, Michelle Alozie proved to be the star of the night with a long range effort in stoppage time to rekindle the hope of a 10th title for the African Queens.
