
The Akwa Ibom First Lady Designate, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has advocated the need for nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first 6 months of life.

Lady Obareki speaking at the commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week, joined members of the Ibom Open Maternity, project on a Road Walk, to raise awareness on breastfeeding in the state.

She said exclusively breastfed babies are healthy are immune to sickness, stating that mothers should derive excess joy in breast feeding their babies.
‎
The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady said healthy babies would naturally morph into a healthy family which in turn will translate into healthy population.
‎
She added that she would partner female legislators in the State Assembly to ensure there’s a proper legislation that allows nursing mothers breast feed their babies at work or any public place.


The 2025 breastfeeding week running from 1st to 7th August is with the theme – Prioritize Breast Feeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.
