





Ahead of the commencement of the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba , a team of technical officials and personnel from the National Sports Commission, state sports commissions and sports federations has undertaken inspection tour of all the venues and facilities to be used for the games .
The inspection officials in three groups moved round to inspect the track in the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba as well as the multi-purpose indoor sports halls, and the swimming pool.
Some other venues inspected included Hockey Complex, Okpanam, the Cenotaph venue for volleyball and handball, Government House Squash Court , the venue for squash, basketball, tennis and fives.
The General Manager of Ekiti State Sports Commission , Lawrence Mayowa Ogundele expressed satisfaction with the hockey facilities.
He said, ” The hockey pitch is good, and it’s a standard one ,and Delta State Government did a very good work. But they need to put some few things in place, and we will have a good competition”, he stated.
South South Rep for Hockey, Felix Gheghor said the goal post needed to be adjusted as the event is a junior tournament .
The team also inspected Ibori Golf Course, venue for golf, and the Dennis Osadebe University, Anwai Hostels for accommodation of athletes.
Other venues inspected included Technical College, Asaba for accommodation and rugby game, Ibusa Asaba Expressway for cycling, Saint Patrick College Hall for boxing, and the college field for cricket and football as well as the AGGS venue for Abula.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the technical committee for the 9th National Youth Games has held in Asaba .
Addressing the session, the director for grassroots sports development, National Sports Commission, Amaka Asheofu who represented the DG of the commission, gave an assurance that efforts would be intensified to make the 9th edition of the National Youths Games better than the previous editions despite move by the host state, Delta to remove some games including baseball, softball, deaf table tennis and beach volleyball that featured in previous competitions over accommodation challenges.
The 9th National Youth Games in Asaba is slated to commence on the 26th August, and will be concluded 6th of September.
