The House of Representative Committee on Health has applauded the Universality of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, on its thrive towards infrastructural growth in the hospital.

This comes as the committee on Health Institutions, led by its chairman, Dr Patric Umoh, visited the facility on an oversight visit to ascertain the level of performance with the 2024 budgetary allocation to the institution.

Dr. Umoh, while addressing newsmen, explained that the team was impressed by the levels of commitment of the leadership of the hospital to infrastructural development.

In his words, he rated the CMD a seven out of ten, and commended his effort, stating that the hospital has been given provisional clearance after touring the facilities and seeing the UPTH Premium, ICU, Mother and Child clinic, among ongoing and completed projects.

Another member of the House, Mr. Paul Ekpo advised management of health institutions to be proactive in running health facilities across the country for an effective healthcare system.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director UPTH, Professor Henry Ugboma expressed gratitude for the committee’s visit and pledged continued commitment to delivering quality healthcare services in line with national standards.
He also advocated the speedy completion of the Government solar power plant in the hospital to aide power supply.

The visit featured an inspection of key hospital departments, including the UPTH Premium and discussions on areas requiring federal government support, especially in infrastructure, manpower, and equipment.

Present on the occasion were other members of the team, management staff of UPTH, including the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee Professor Datonye Alasia and the Medical Director, Federal Medical Center Yenegoa, Bayelsa State Dr James Omietmi.
