
The Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu has flagged off a rural electrification project in Itega Ekpudu community, Yala Local Government Area of the State, bringing renewed hope to residents who had endured years of blackout due to vandalism of power infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Director General of the State Electrification Agency, Mr. Francis Ekpo, said the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to its “People First” agenda.
Mr. Ekpo pointed out that access to electricity in rural areas remains a key priority, noting that reliable power supply is vital for economic growth and improved living standards.
Residents of the community could not hide their joy as they witnessed the restoration of electricity.
They described the development as a long-awaited relief that would enhance security, boost small-scale businesses, and improve the overall quality of life.
The traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Chief Godwin Idu, commended Governor Otu for keeping his promise to the people.
Chief Idu described the electrification drive as a significant milestone towards the Governor’s vision of achieving a “Transformation of Light” across the State by 2027.
Also present at the flag-off ceremony were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects/Programmes Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Raphael Murphy; Senior Special Assistant on Party Affairs, Sir Chris Mbu-Ogar; PHEDC Branch Manager for Cross River North and Central, Innocent Inaku; and other dignitaries who pledged their continued support for the government’s rural development agenda.
