Lagos, Edo , Delta battle for Supremacy as Youth Games Closing draws near

As the closing ceremony for the 9th National Youth Games holding in Asaba beckons, the resilient athletes representing the host, Delta State are intensifying efforts to retain their title as perennial winners of the yearly youth competition.

Team Delta which currently occupies the third position on the medals table, is in a hot chase to displace Team Edo who is separated by just four gold medals difference.

Sports analysts insist that the defending champion and host Delta, still stands the chance to finish to the podium.

The medals table just released by the media and publicity sub committee, shows that Team Lagos is on top with 38 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals, followed by Team Edo with 27 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals while Delta State has garnered 23 gold, 27 silver and 27 bronze medals to occupy the third position.

Meanwhile, six sports events are expected to be concluded today with many medals available for grab ahead of the closing Saturday.

The events include badminton, athletics, wrestling, ayo, kickboxing and abula.
