National Orientation Agency (NOA) has taken its sensitization campaign on five thematic areas to Isoko South local government area of Delta State.

At a townhall meeting held at Emede, the Director-General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the advocacy meeting focused on flood mitigation, national enlightenment campaign on government policies, sensitization campaign against sign-out extremes in schools, national campaign on Nigerian identity project and national symbols, and security awareness sensitization campaign: achieving improved security consciousness in our community.

Mallam Lanre noted that the federal government had rolled out the Nigerian Education Loan (NELFUND) for students that are currently in higher institutions to ensure that no Nigerian who is qualified to go for tertiary education is prevented as a result of inability to pay school fees and that the loan is available to all Nigerians.

The NOA Director General represented by the Delta State Director of the agency, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi, maintained that the National Security Awareness under the Renewed Hope Security Architecture had directed the establishment of a specialized unit of the armed forces aimed at enabling rapid response.

Mallam Issa-Onilu revealed that the armed forces were deploying strategies aimed at tackling the diverse security challenges across the country.

On the national values and the Nigerian identity, national symbols sensitization, the DG explained that the national values reorientation would focus on national values and campaigns against extreme graduation practices that do not align with the nation’s culture.

According to Mallam Issa-Onilu, the Nigerian identity and national symbols sensitization will focus on campaigns aimed at familiarizing the public with the current national anthem, unity, and patriotism.

On flooding and disaster preparedness, the DG noted that poor drainage systems and careless dumping of waste in drainage systems have often resulted in floods in various states.

He urged members of the public to adhere to NiMet warnings and relocate to a safer place.

President General of Emede Community, Elder John Emonido, commended the federal government for the advocacy enlightenment campaign visit

He said, “We express our gratitude to the National Orientation Agency for choosing Emede Kingdom, Isoko South Local Government Area, as the venue for this enlightenment initiative. We are proud to host this program, whose aim is to educate our citizens on government policies and promote national development.

“We believe that enlightened citizens are better equipped to contribute to the growth and progress of our nation. We are committed to working with the National Orientation Agency to ensure the success of this program and to also foster a more informed and engaged citizenry.”

At Oleh, administrative headquarters of Isoko South local government area of Delta State, the council chairman, Hon. Friday Warri, identified implementation of laws as a major challenge facing the country, saying that he had not seen any national events where the 3rd stanza of the national anthem is used for prayers.

Mr Warri said flooding was a perennial issue, and called on the National Emergency Management Agency to always speed up with whatever assistance they will render to residents displaced by flood.

Highlight of the advocacy campaigns included distribution of national anthem booklets, fliers, posters and other relevant materials of national values.
