


In continuation of the Women Economic Empowerment Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a training workshop to empower women farmers and entrepreneurs was declared open on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, where the wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara enjoined the women to take farming as major empowerment business
The workshop which is to sensitize the women on values of farming has its theme centered on “General Smart Agriculture in Relation to the Renewed Hope Initiative” as a measure to boost their economic earnings.
Lady Fubara emphasised that it is important for the participants to take advantage of the training as it serves as a preparatory step towards the Agricultural Empowerment Programme of RHI billed for Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
She noted that the training will help their farming businesses as it will impart them with the knowledge to manage their various farming system.
Speaking at the training session as a facilitator, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Udensi Udensi, harped on the value of agriculture in national development.
Represented by Prof. Joseph Orluckukwu, he elaborated that adopting smart and innovative agricultureal approach is vital for food security especially in developing economies that is witnessing population explosion.
He advocated for government initiatives in adopting policies that will benefit the people in particular and the nation at large such as provision of subsidies for critical tools in the form of seedlings and investing in infrastructure to promote self sufficiency in food production.
