The Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund has donated microbiology laboratory equipment worth millions of Naira to the State owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma.

Chairman of the EDTF Board, High Chief Fidelis Agbiki said at the ceremony that the gesture was part of the interventionist agency’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the State.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Agih said the facilities would aid the accreditation of Microbiology Programmes by the National Universities Commission.

According to the Chairman of the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund Board, the EDTF had a history of supporting the Niger Delta University which is the pioneer tertiary institution in the State.

High Chief Fidelis Agbiki who pointed out that the third Board of the Agency decided to donate the equipment on the request of the University, reiterated the EDTF’s commitment to more interventions to raise the standards of education in Bayelsa.

The Vice Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, Professor Joseph Agih while commending the State government for setting up the EDTF, thanked the Agency for the gesture, pledging that the equipment would be optimally utilized.

Head of Microbiology Department, Dr Ebisomou Agedah said following the donation of the equipment it would enhance practical sessions in the laboratory while facilitating the accreditation of programmes in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the NDU.

The equipment donated to the Facluty’s Laboratory by the EDTF were 36 Microscopes, 4 Incubators, 4 autoclaves, 2 Water bags, 2 Refrigerators, 2 Deep Freezers, 1 Water Distiller and 1 Magnetic Stirrer.
