Organizing Committees for Niger Delta Games twenty twenty six have been inaugurated.
Speaking during the Inauguration at Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Headquarters in Port Harcourt Rivers State, Chairman of Main Organizing Committee, Alabo Boma Iyayi expressed optimism that the games would provide opportunities for the youths outside oil.
Alabo IYAYI who was happy over the success of the previous games, insisted that talents were being identified through the event, which would be of great benefit to the region in the near future.
The Chairman who is the Executive Director Finance and Administration NDDC, emphasized that sport was beneficial both to the individual and the nation at large, having ability to make participants global figures and Ambassadors.
“We want to harness the best of the Best, we want to provide opportunities for the young ones.
Engage the youths with the power of sports, so that tomorrow, they will become champions.
We have started the process in twenty-twenty five, with the first edition of Niger Delta Games, it was applauded across the country because it was the first of it’s kind, apart from the National Sports Festival, being organized by the Federation, but this one is different, a Regional sports festival”
Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Sport Bayelsa State, Daniel Igali who described the first edition as successful and good initiative by NDDC, stated that the move was good for Sport development in the region.
Similarly, the consultant, Mr.Itiako Ikpokpo promised that measures would be put in place to ensure hitch free tournament.
The respondents Appreciated NDDC for sponsoring the games as part of youth development.
Edo State will host the second edition with athletes twenty years and below competing for medals in fifteen different sports.
