The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has screened and cleared Governor Douye Diri’s nominee, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, as the new Deputy Governor of the State following the demise of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo on December eleven, last year.

Dr. Akpe’s confirmation followed his screening by the Assembly during plenary in Yenagoa, where lawmakers unanimously endorsed his nomination after reviewing his credentials, experience and vision for the state.

The Speaker of the House announced the confirmation after a voice vote by members, noting that the nominee satisfied constitutional requirements and demonstrated capacity to support the governor in advancing the administration’s agenda.

Governor Diri had earlier forwarded Dr. Akpe’s name to the Assembly for consideration in line with constitutional provisions, urging lawmakers to give the nomination expedited attention to ensure continuity in governance.

During the screening, Dr. Akpe, a former Leader of the State House of Assembly expressed appreciation to the governor for finding him worthy of the nomination.

He pledged loyalty, dedication and commitment to the development of Bayelsa State.

The new Deputy Governor gave an assurance to the lawmakers that he would work collaboratively with the executive and legislative arms to sustain ongoing projects and policies.

The confirmation comes in the wake of the death of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, whose passing created a vacancy in the office of the Deputy Governor.

Dr. Akpe is expected to be sworn in by the governor at a ceremony to be announced by the state government.
