CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS URGED TO COLLABORATE WITH HYPREP TO ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION

Civil Society Organisations have been called upon to collaborate with the Hydrocarbon pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, in sensitizing fish farmers to desist from using explosives in their fishing process.
Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey who made the call at HYPREP Office in Port Harcourt, said the use of explosives is causing more harm to the environment, thereby making it uncomfortable for some aquatic species.
In an interview, some members of the CSO, Program s Officer, Natural Resources and Climate change, Ford Foundation, Office of West Africa, Mr. Emmanuel Kuyole, Dr. Emem Okon of Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre and Mr. Ken Henshaw of We the People, commended the process so far, calling for the remediation of other polluted sites in the Niger Delta Region of the Country.
Members of the Civil Society Organisation also visited some HYPREP remediation sites in Isosiken, Eleme Local Government Area, Mangrove shoreline in Bomu, Gokana Local Government Area and Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration in Wiyakara, Khana Local Government Area all in Rivers State.
