Stakeholders of Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Umo Eno for a second term in office, joining counterparts in Ikot Ekpene and Uyo Senatorial Districts in backing the Governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was formalized through a communique presented to Governor Eno by the political leader of the district, Ambassador Assam Assam, SAN, who described the Governor’s performance in less than three years as the basis for the vote of confidence. He said the district had “implicit confidence” in Governor Eno’s ability to continue steering the affairs of the state till 2031.

Chief Assam noted that despite hailing from Uyo Senatorial District, Governor Eno’s longstanding business and personal ties to Eket had endeared him to the people as one of their own. He said the district had also resolved to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for re-election in 2027, describing the decisions as a united political direction aimed at sustaining development and effective representation.

Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakeneyi commended Governor Eno’s leadership, saying his inclusive governance and developmental strides had inspired the widespread endorsement. She also formally introduced Ambassador Assam as the new political leader of Eket Senatorial District, alongside Ikpoto Okon Osung as Deputy Leader and Engineer Uwem Okoko as Secretary.

In separate remarks, elder statesman Dr. Pat Ifon, Ikpoto Okon Osung and former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere reaffirmed their confidence in Governor Eno’s administration and pledged support for what they described as “eight unbroken years” of purposeful leadership.

Political Leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, praised Eket stakeholders for aligning with what he called a united front behind the Governor, describing the endorsement as a further consolidation of political solidarity across the state.

Responding, Governor Umo Eno expressed appreciation to the delegation and people of Eket Senatorial District for what he described as a profound demonstration of love, trust and confidence in his administration. He said the endorsement was not merely political support, but a pathway to sustaining projects and policies already underway.

Governor Eno attributed the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the state partly to the broad-based political realignments in the state and reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, noting that no local government area had been left out of government projects.

Highlighting development efforts in the district, the Governor expressed satisfaction with ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the Eastern Obolo Road to the council secretariat and Odio Road in Eket, describing them as strategic interventions for economic growth and connectivity.

He urged citizens to continue to maintain peace to attract more development, stressing that progress transcends geographical boundaries. The Governor also called on political stakeholders to approach the forthcoming primaries with maturity, tolerance and sportsmanship to preserve unity within the state.

The endorsement meeting further underscores growing political momentum across Akwa Ibom in support of Governor Eno’s continuity agenda, while reinforcing support for the APC-led national leadership ahead of 2027.
