A fresh peace initiative by the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. (Comr.) Friday Ovoke Warri, has brought the warring parties in the lingering Uzere Kingdom crisis to the negotiating table, culminating in the signing of a Peace Accord.
The agreement was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Warri on Thursday at the council secretariat in Oleh as part of efforts to end the crisis, prevent further escalation and protect lives and property in the kingdom.
The meeting was attended by the parties to the dispute, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives and security agencies.
At the end of the deliberations, the stakeholders signed the Peace Accord, committing themselves to resolving future disagreements through dialogue and other peaceful means rather than violence.
Under the agreement, the stakeholders acknowledged that disputes could arise in any kingdom or community but insisted that such disagreements must not be allowed to degenerate into violence, loss of lives or destruction of property.
They also agreed to treat the fresh crisis of Sunday, August 23, 2026, as a closed chapter, with all parties pledging to abandon vendetta, reprisal attacks and retaliation.
The accord further stipulates that any signatory, proxy or representative found to be directly or indirectly propagating, instigating or supporting violence through youths or any allied group would be held accountable by the relevant security agencies.
Expressing regret over the recent incident, the stakeholders pledged to work collectively towards restoring peace, unity and stability in Uzere Kingdom.
The initiative is expected to provide a framework for reconciliation among the various parties, rebuild confidence and promote peaceful coexistence across the kingdom.
The development also highlights the importance of collaboration among the local government, traditional institutions, community leaders and security agencies in resolving communal disputes before they escalate into threats to lives and property.
Signatories to the Peace Accord included the Ovie of Uzere, HRM Udogri Odhebe Odhiwu I; President-General of Uzere, Edward Onyagbodor; Bashorun Askia Ogieh; Chief Iduh Amadhe; Sam Ogrih; James Millie; and the Youth Chairman of Uzere.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the council chairman; Chairman of the Isoko South Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Johnson Egbo Ewhiri; Commanding Officer, 246 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Oleh, Lt. Col. H. A. Mohammed; Divisional Police Officer, Oleh, CSP Boyewa Bomi-Dore; and the Officer in Charge of the Department of State Services (DSS), Isoko South, George Tamounottonye.
With the Peace Accord now in place, stakeholders are expected to honour their commitments and work together to ensure the full restoration of peace, unity and security in Uzere Kingdom.
