The Federal Road Safety Corps, Cross River Sector Command, has intensified preparations to ensure safer roads, effective traffic management, and a significant reduction in road traffic crashes during the 2026 Ember Months.

According to the statement, the Command has put in place strategic measures to address the anticipated increase in vehicular movement, traffic congestion, road user indiscipline, and other challenges associated with the Ember Months period.
The Command said it has strengthened special intervention patrol operations along major highways, traffic corridors, black spots, and other areas identified as prone to road traffic crashes and congestion.
It added that patrol teams have also been strategically deployed to ensure effective monitoring, enforcement, and prompt response to emergencies.
Mr Etuk noted that attention would be focused on critical traffic infractions including dangerous driving, overloading, excessive speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use of phones while driving, seatbelt violations, tyre-related offences, mechanically deficient vehicles, and number plate violations.
As part of the preparations, the Command said it would embark on extensive public enlightenment and sensitization campaigns through radio, television, social media, motor parks, town-hall engagements, road shows, and other platforms.
Mr Etuk explained that FRSC campaigns are aimed at educating motorists, commercial drivers, passengers, and other road users on safe driving practices and the need for patience, discipline, and caution throughout the Ember Months.
The Sector Commander added that personnel would be deployed to strategic intersections, major entry and exit points, busy corridors, and motor parks to ensure free flow of traffic.
He said officers are expected to combine effective traffic control with firm but courteous enforcement to minimize delays and prevent avoidable gridlock.
Charging personnel to remain professional, disciplined, and responsive, Mr Etuk stressed that the Ember Months operation is not merely an enforcement exercise but a collective effort to save lives, prevent crashes, and ensure the seamless movement of people and goods across the State.
He further advised the motoring public to plan their journeys, avoid night travel where possible, ensure adequate rest before long-distance trips, and report dangerous driving or unsafe practices by calling the FRSC toll-free line 122.
