More than 500 farmers, investors and agricultural stakeholders will converge on Abuja on October 13 and 14 for a major forum aimed at unlocking new business opportunities and strengthening Nigeria’s food security.
The 2026 FCT Farmers’ Day and Farmers and Investors Interactive Forum will hold at the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, Area 10, Garki.
The Visionary Women in Agricultural Development in Africa (VIWADA) and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), FCT Chapter, are jointly organising the two-day event, which also marks the International Year of Women Farmers.
The theme is “Celebrating Women Farmers’ Efforts and Impacts, Empowering FCT Smallholder Farmers for Sustainable Growth towards the Achievement of Nutrition and Food Security in Nigeria.”
Farmers from the FCT and the six North Central states Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau are expected to attend.
Agribusiness owners, input suppliers, government officials, cooperatives, youth groups and other stakeholders from across the country will also be present.
A key highlight is the interactive forum that will put farmers face-to-face with investors and companies offering inputs, equipment, services and other support needed to improve farming operations.
Organisers said the gathering would help farmers discover available services, build useful business contacts and explore collaboration opportunities with investors and agricultural enterprises.
The programme will promote modern farming techniques, showcase locally produced agricultural goods and encourage farmers to adopt innovations that can raise yields, improve sustainability and boost income.
Special attention will be given to women, youths and persons with disabilities as organisers seek to expand access to agricultural opportunities and encourage more young Nigerians to embrace farming as a viable business.
AFAN FCT and VIWADA introduced the annual celebration in 2024 as a platform to recognise farmers, share practical knowledge and drive the growth of the agricultural sector.
The event forms part of activities leading up to World Food Day on October 16.
Organisers expressed hope that bringing farmers, investors, government officials and service providers together would strengthen partnerships, support smallholder farmers and advance Nigeria’s push for sustainable agriculture and food security.
