The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for rewarding academic excellence with a ₦50 million education support fund for a student of Oghareki Model Technical College, describing the gesture as a powerful affirmation of the value of education and its role in building a brighter future.
Oghenesivbe, in a statement issued in Asaba , said the governor’s decision to reward the student, Miss Ogheneovo Davina, following her impressive welcome address on behalf of her fellow students, reflects the administration’s commitment to encouraging young people to pursue knowledge, develop their talents and aspire to excellence.
He hinted that the education support fund had been redeemed, describing the development as a practical demonstration of the governor’s resolve to recognise merit and support young people in their educational pursuits.
Oghenesivbe said the governor’s recognition of Davina sends an encouraging message to students across Delta State that hard work, eloquence, discipline, creativity and academic commitment are worthy of recognition and reward.
He urged students to take advantage of the educational opportunities provided by the state government, remain focused on their studies and develop the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the overall development of Delta State.
According to the Bureau DG, the gesture reinforces the message that education remains a veritable instrument for personal advancement, innovation, economic prosperity and sustainable development, contrary to the misleading notion that education is a scam.
He noted that education provides the foundation for scientific discoveries, technological advancement, professional competence and the development of skilled manpower required to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life in the state.
Oghenesivbe said the governor’s support for the student aligns with the MORE Agenda of his administration, which prioritises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security, with human capital development serving as a critical component of the state’s development strategy.
He further noted that the administration’s investment in technical and vocational education demonstrates its commitment to equipping young people with practical skills, encouraging innovation and preparing them for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
Oghenesivbe stated that the completion and inauguration of the Model Technical College at Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area, represents a significant milestone in this direction, addimg that the institution is designed to provide students with opportunities to acquire relevant technical knowledge and practical competencies that can support their career development and contribute to the state’s industrial and economic growth.
He said Oborevwori administration has also sustained support for students in tertiary institutions through bursary awards, noting that the state government approved and disbursed bursary payments to all eligible Delta State students to help ease the financial burden on families and enable students to concentrate on their studies.
Oghenesivbe posited that the Oborevwori administration has continued to invest in school infrastructure, teacher recruitment and professional development to strengthen the quality of teaching and learning across the state, saying that these efforts reflect a broader commitment to improving access to education, enhancing learning outcomes and creating a more supportive environment for students and educators.
The Bureau DG reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration would continue to promote policies and initiatives that expand opportunities for young people, strengthen educational institutions and support the development of a skilled, innovative and productive population.
He said the governor’s gesture to the young student underscores a fundamental principle of governance: investing in education is investing in the future, as the knowledge and skills acquired by today’s students will help shape the prosperity, competitiveness and progress of Delta State in the years ahead.
