Edo State Acting Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Bernard Egwehide has called on all workers in the state to attend workers day celebration slated for today, May Ist at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The Acting NLC chairman noted that the event was also to celebrate Governor Monday Okpebholo achievement in office especially to the well-being and welfare of workers.
Citing the release of over five hundred million Naira as subvention to the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, the regularization of casuals workers who were cleaners into the state civil service and the release of one billion naira for the payment of pensions to retiree from 2012 among others, Comrade Egwehide noted that Governor Okpebholo was indeed a labor friendly and urged workers in the state to disregard the directive of the National president, Comrade Joe Ajaero not to attend the May day event, stressing that the Edo state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has put in place modalities to ensure a smooth and peaceful May day celebration.
Comrade Egwehide further maintained that Comrade Odion was no longer the Edo State Chairman of NLC having been removed as a member of the Nigeria union of Road transport workers in the state.
