Detained Human Right Advocates, Marxist Kola Edokpayi and Comrade Orako Ambe were released from the custody of the department of Security Service, DSS on Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

This was made known according to a statement signed by a Rights Advocate, Reverend David Ugolor and a Human Rights lawyer, Mr Abraham Oviawe on behalf of coalition of civil society organisations in Edo State. The duo were released after meeting the administrative bail conditions granted them by the Edo State High court 1 in Benin City.

Marxist Edokpayi and Comrade Ambe were arrested last Wednesday at their office in Benin City by the DSS in preparation for an anti- Colonialism and Neocolonalism solidarity protest in support of the military ruler of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore.

The arrest triggered public outcry with protests across Benin City by some civil society organisations with many questioning the authority of the DSS in arresting the Rights Advocates after having met with the Commissioner of police and other security agencies ahead the planned protest.
