The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the reconstruction of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, permanent orientation camp located at Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

Governor Umo Eno, who made the announcement during the swearing in ceremonies for the 2025 Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state, also announced the increase in corps state allowance from N5000 to N20000 including Akwa Ibom indigenes serving in other states
effective August 2025, in a bid of ensuring their welfare.

Governor Eno while restating his commitment to provide necessary support and enabling environment for the corps to thrive in the state, emphasized that their role during the service year cannot be overstated as they are expected to impact lives through divers economic sectors and community development.

Represented by Commissioner Youth Development, Dr Ekerette Ekanem, the Governor advised the corps members to approach the service year with open mind, willing spirit to learn, grow and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

“The NYSC remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring unifying platforms, fostering national integration, discipline, and leadership among the youth. As you commence this new and important phase, know that Akwa Ibom State is known for hospitality, peaceful environment, rich culture and progressive development. I encourage you to explore our communities, delicacies, understand our values and acquaint yourselves in our shared humanity.”

Governor Eno urged the corps members to use their time wisely, being the light where ever they find themselves, inspiring other youths while supporting government initiatives.

“As you take your oath of allegiance today, remember that you are ambassadors of your families, schools, state, and indeed of Nigeria. Let your conduct reflect discipline, patrotism,and responsibility. The orientation course is a vital component in this process, as it instills discipline, physical fitness and teamwork. Please take every activity seriously” he said.

In a remark, the State Coordinator, Mr Samuel Pepple, explaining the rudiment of the service year to the corps members, urged them to distinguish themselves in all activities and programmes of the corps packaged to prepare them for the challenges of the service year and beyond.

“The orientation programme which you are undergoing now, is just one aspect out of the four cardinal programme of the National Youth Service Corps after which you go through primary assignment, community development service and winding down and passing out. I therefore enjoin you to compulsively and obligatorily distinguish yourselves and take part in all the activities on camp to expose you to rediscover yourselves, to have team spirit, diligence and commitment in the service of our fatherland. I therefore urge you to dedicate yourselves to the challenges ahead.” he urged

1078 were administered the oath of national services comprising 518 males and 560 females by the Justice Ekaette Obot represented by Justice Edem Akpan.
