Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to security and grassroots development as central pillars of the ARISE Agenda, while welcoming participants of Course II of the Air Force War College, Nigeria, on a study tour to the state.

The delegation, led by the Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Babatunde Philip, was received at Government House, Uyo, by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who represented the Governor.

Governor Eno emphasized the inseparable link between security and development, noting that his administration’s deliberate policies have positioned Akwa Ibom as a peaceful and progressive state. He commended the Nigerian Air Force for its strategic role in national defense and expressed hope that the team’s visit would be insightful and mutually beneficial.

“We always welcome the opportunity to engage with the Nigerian Military on issues that affect citizen welfare and the security of lives and property,” he said. “Development is the most effective tool for ensuring security, as it addresses poverty, unemployment, and social unrest.”

To enhance internal security, the Governor noted that the state has created a dedicated Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, headed by a retired General. The Ministry’s local intelligence network, known as Ibom Community Watch, has significantly boosted collaboration with security agencies.

Governor Eno highlighted several grassroots-focused projects, including the “One Project Per Local Government” initiative, which has delivered model primary schools and health centres across all 31 LGAs, along with road and housing developments. He also mentioned the Compassionate Homes program for the vulnerable.

On youth empowerment, he cited the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre Ibom-LED and Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, which have trained and funded thousands of young entrepreneurs to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance.

Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Philip said the study tour, themed “Environmental Degradation and Socio-Economic Development: Akwa Ibom and Cross River States in Perspective,” aims to enrich participants’ understanding of leadership and strategic decision-making. He commended Akwa Ibom’s balanced approach to development and environmental management.

Established in 2016, the Air Force War College Nigeria is the highest institution for strategic military training in the Nigerian Air Force.
