The remains of the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo have been lowered to mother earth in his country home of Ofoni Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the State.

In a message to the Funeral mass held at the Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Ofoni, President Bola Tinubu condoled with the Government and people of Bayelsa State and the Ewhrudjakpo family over the death of the Deputy Governor which he described as a huge loss to the country.

It was a somber and sober mood at the Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Ofoni as dignitaries from all walks of life attended the funeral of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

In a homily, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bomadi, Most Reverend Hyacinth Egbebo said death was inevitable, urging the people to take solace with the fact that the late Senator Ewhrudjakpo lived a life of service, an attribute public office holders should emulate.

President Bola Tinubu represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Oil, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri in a tribute, said the departed Deputy Governor lived a life devoted to the service of God, Bayelsa State and the country, charging Nigerians to strive to leave lasting legacies that would outlive them.

Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who also attended the service alongside his wife, Dame Patience described the death of Senator Ewhrudjakpo as heart shattering, enjoining Nigerians especially politicians to live a life of selflessness.

Governor Douye Diri said Bayelsa lost one of its best public officers, admonishing those who have the opportunity to lead to imitate the virtues of humility and reliability which he exhibited.

The Funeral Service for the late Bayelsa Deputy Governor was attended by a cast of dignitaries including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas represented by the Majority leader, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Lawmakers in the National and State House of Assembly, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Deputy Governors of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Ondo, Enugu, Bauchi and Benue States, representative of the Minister of Health, Head of the Civil service of the Federation, Dame Didi Walson-Jack, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim among others.
