
… Urges participants to put in their best in future outings
The Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) Board has rewarded students who participated in a recent National Robotics Challenge with cash gifts.
Bayelsa State was represented by Students of Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia, Government Model Secondary School Ekeremor, Ijaw National Academy Kaiama and Sports Academy Assoama.
At the end of the competition, Government Model Secondary School Ogbia emerged second runners up.
The competition which had as it’s theme: “Robotics for Climate Action” was organized by “Next Robotics Academy”, the official partner of Nigeria’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The four schools from Bayelsa were selected to participate in the competition after submitting videos of their projects.
Speaking at the brief ceremony held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Education, the honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah commended the State representatives and particularly appreciated Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia for bringing honour to the State in their maiden national competition.
His words: “ This performance justifies the intervention of the Bayelsa State Government in Education through the Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) in coding and robotics training for students in the State. I urge you all to put in more efforts in future outings.

As a show of support and encouragement from the Prosperity Government, we are here today to reward the students, teachers and mentors with cash prizes.
Once again, I hail the EDTF Board for always rendering quality educational services to our dear State. Together we shall continue to develop and equip our students with relevant knowledge and exposure to shine both nationally and globally, Dr Gentle stated.
Executive Secretary of the EDTF, Dr (Mrs) Alice A. Atuwo, in her welcome address, noted that the the selected schools took part in competition on 27th of March, 2025 via zoom along other schools across the country. According to her, Bayelsa scaled through the first round which gave them the opportunity to emerge 3rd position in the overall stage.
Dr. (Mrs) Alice Atuwo, said she was overwhelmed with joy as Bayelsa was the only school that scaled through amongst other schools that participated via zoom. According to the EDTF Executive Secretary, that was rationale behind the cash reward to encourage and appreciate the students and their mentors for a job well done.
Mr. Okpako Dickson, Principal of Sports Academy, Assoama, in his vote of thanks expressed profound gratitude to EDTF for the cash reward and charged students who participated in national competition to mentor other students in their various schools.
High point of the occasion was presented of cash rewards to students by the honorable Commissioner for Education.
