JAMES EKPO —- CALABAR

In a collaborative push to enhance security in Cross River State, especially it’s border areas, the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency, BORDERCOMM, Mr Ngim Okpo played host to the Director-General of the Homeland security (South), Chief Michael Nsan and his team in his office in Calabar, to strategically plan measures aimed at fortifying security and safety measures in the State.

The meeting came on the heels of growing security concerns in the region especially from the Benue State border, underscoring the need for cohesive efforts to address the challenges effectively.

The Director-General of BORDERCOMM, Mr Okpo said the State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu is deeply committed to ensuring the utmost safety of all residents of the State.

To further promote security in the Southern region of the State, Mr. Okpo proposed the establishment of robust check-points in the flashpoint border areas stating that “the partnership between BORDERCOMM and the State Homeland security would birth community-driven security models, periodic workshops on emergency preparedness, crisis management and viable communication with interventionists agencies of government.”

On his part, the Director-General of the State Homeland Security raised concerns of the lack of preventive measures at the borders thereby giving criminals free passage to seamlessly survey potential targets in the communities seamlessly.

He therefore called for more stringent checks and awareness among citizens to recognize and report suspicious activities while also encouraging communities to embrace a culture of security consciousness.
