
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Baba Mohammed Azare, has reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that citizens exercise their voting rights in a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
CP Azare gave the assurance while receiving the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa Ibom State, Anugbum Onuoha, during a courtesy visit to the State Police Command Headquarters in Uyo.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the visit formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between the Police and key democratic institutions ahead of future electoral activities in the state.
Speaking during the engagement, the Police Commissioner underscored the critical need for strong synergy between the Police and INEC, noting that both institutions occupy strategic positions in the conduct of credible elections.
He stressed that the Command remains committed to professionalism, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of its electoral responsibilities.
“The Police fully understand and appreciate the importance of ensuring that the votes of citizens count in every electoral process,” CP Azare stated, adding that the Command would continue to provide the necessary security framework to guarantee peaceful elections across the state.
The Commissioner also commended the cordial working relationship between the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and INEC, describing the partnership as essential to protecting the democratic rights of citizens and sustaining public confidence in the electoral process.
In his remarks, Prof. Onuoha lauded the Commissioner of Police for the efforts of the Command in maintaining security and public order in the state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner expressed optimism that the visit would further strengthen the existing collaboration between the electoral body and the Police, especially in ensuring smooth and credible elections in Akwa Ibom State.
