Humanitarian workers have been commended for their dedication and service to humanity despite the enormous sacrifices they make and challenges they face to improve living conditions and reduce suffering in societies.
The Cross River State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Doctor Helen Isamoh– Egodo gave the commendation during a Road Walk to mark this year’s World Humanitarian Day in partnership with the State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA and other relevant organizations in Calabar.
The Commissioner who also paid tribute to workers who lost their lives while carrying out humanitarian services, explained that this year’s theme ‘Strengthening Global Solidarity and empowering local communities’ is a clarion call to raise awareness on the importance of humanitarian work, the challenges involved, and the risk encountered while providing aid, support, and hope to the vulnerable.

“It is worth marking, we know that the process of discharging out duties, helping the needy in the society, intervening here and there, we have lost humanitarian workers and the government of Cross River State appreciates all the development partners for their selfless efforts. We appreciate and acknowledge that, and we implore you to keep doing your good work which involves helping and saving human beings. God Almighty bless all of you”.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Rekpene Uket, in her contribution, charged individuals, governmental and non governmental organizations to get involved in humanitarian services which should be extended to the interior parts of the State.

“All Agencies that offer humanitarian services must come together in partnership because together we can move mountains but in solos we might not be able to do much. So it is a call for synergy. It is a call for us to take the message and advocacy back to the grassroots”
Comrade Uket thanked the Cross River State government for organizing the Road Walk and emphasized that an act of compassion can change a life forever.
