Edem Ekpenyong Street, a diversion used by motorists, trucks and lorries during the peak of construction of the Calabar-Itu Road is in a very deplorable state.
The Calabar-Itu road passes through Akwa Ibom State, connecting Rivers and Cross River States and was closed while motorists were rerouted through the Edem Ekpenyong road.
The residents are calling on the Akwa Ibom State government to save them from the water logs on the roads with floods entering their homes when it rains.
Lamenting, a tricycle driver, Mr. Treasure Anthony and a trader, Mrs. Merith Linus observed that a part of the road from the Aya Edege Street was done by the NDDC but that the contractor did a shabby job that washed off almost immediately.
Another resident, Dr Enobong Solomon lamented that the same Edem Ekpenyong Street has no electricity supply for over 3months and the residents are dependent on fuel and generator or with the option of being in the dark; appealing to Governor Umoh to intervene as businesses affected by the bad state of the road are further stalled.

The residents say they are being taxed ten thousand naira to fix the light; an amount many of them cannot afford and they seek governments intervention on the Edem Ekpenyong road and power situation in the area.
