The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has donated a state of the art ambulance to the management of the university of Benin Teaching Hospital for rapid response to emergency cases within the South -South geopolitical zone.
This is among the distribution of ambulances being donated by the federal government to some selected teaching hospitals in the six geopolitical zones.
At a news conference held at the hospital’s board room, The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Health for the donation which she said was part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president in transforming federal hospitals.
“We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government under the Renewed Hope Agenda for the invaluable support to UBTH. This donation will enhance our emergency medical services and deliver our mandate to provide quality healthcare delivery. “
She further stated that the ambulance was facilitated by the Deputy Governor of Edo state, Mr Dennis Idahosa as well as the oncology centre which has the latest technology called the linear accelerator machine to enhance the treatment of cancer and expressed appreciation to him.
Professor Ize Iyamu described the ambulance as a working theatre that would provide all emergency services in rehabilitating and resuscitating accidents and trauma victims.
Inaugurating the ambulance, the Deputy Governor, Mr Idahosa said the modern mobile ambulance would cater and address the emergency needs of Edo people in providing prompt emergency medical care, patient monitoring, as well as safe transit to a hospital.
Mr Idahosa who inspected the oncology centre, expressed delight that the centre is functional, stressing that both facilities were influenced by him when he was the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Health Care Services, promising to bring more infrastructural development to the hospital to meet the health needs of the people.
“I have been part of the process to attract this donation from my days as a member of the House of Representatives. I thank the President and the Minister of the Federal Republic and the Federal Ministry of Health. They have done fantastically well. However, I want to tell the President of Nigeria that we need more projects in UBTH as it is strategically located in Nigeria. The more we equip the hospital with modern equipment, the more opportunity and universal basic treatment would be available to our people.” Idahosa said.
The Deputy Governor commended the CMD and other management staff for their commitment in providing excellent healthcare delivery to the people and pledged the Edo State Government’s continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the health sector.
