The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola has pledged the federal government’s commitment towards the actualisation of the Agge Deep Seaport project in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The Minister made the promise in Yenagoa at the launch of the Marine Safety Sensitization Initiative in the State.

Chief Adegboyega Oyetola said the Agge Deep Seaport when operational would serve as a major maritime gateway in the South-South, facilitating international trade, reducing congestion at existing ports, create jobs, attract local and foreign investments, and accelerate economic development in the Niger Delta and the country.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy while acknowledging the support of the Bayelsa State government which according to him was in alignment with the broader Marine and Blue Economy vision of the Federal Government gave an assurance that no efforts would be spared to see to the realisation of the Agge Deep Sea Port located in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

In a remark, Governor Douye Diri appealed to the Federal Government to make good its promise of supporting the state in developing the Agge Deep Seaport.

Represented by the Deputy Governor , Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor described the Agge Seaport project as a gateway to regional and international trade that would be of immense benefit to the state and the country, call for effective partnership from all critical stakeholders including development partners to see to the realization of the project.

The Governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy for selecting Bayelsa as one of the inaugural states for the marine safety initiative.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, King Bubaraye Dakolo, urged the federal government to establish marine safety corps to make the nation’s waterways safer and more secure.

High point of the ceremony was the formal launch of the Marine Safety Sensitization campaign and Distribution of Life Jackets and materials for Inland Water Travels by the Minister.
